Voyage á Astrofarm

These pages relate to general travel in France information. Rules for travel, due to Covid and Brexit, are changing daily.  We will provide links to verified and updated sources in the near future and recommend that you check current restrictions and regulations on each side of the channel.

Astrofarm is deep in rural France and whilst we are only 50K from the airport and rail networks and 2K to the town, there is no public transport. If you wish to explore more of the French countryside, we recommend you hire a car if you are travelling by plane or train.

Your choice of travel to Astrofarm

Astrofarm is in Confolens in the Charente South West France. Confolens is very easy to get to as it is close to Limoges airport and is just 15 minutes from 3 major motorway networks:-  the N141 East to West and the N10 North to South and the A20 North East to South West. Our SatNav co-ordinates are N E and you can find us on Google Earth here

There are flights from several UK airports to Limoges our nearest airport. There is a good timetable for flights from East Midlands, Stansted and Manchester all year round plus Bristol, Leeds, Glasgow, Birmingham Belfast & Southampton from April to October.

You can hire a car at a very reasonable cost at the airport. Alternatively, you can fly to Bordeaux and hire a car for the 2-hour motorway drive to Confolens.

From Calais 5-6 hour drive and there are a choice of directions and routes for driving to Confolens in the South West. You can opt for motorway almost all the way or choose to take your time through towns and villages and visiting interesting places on the way.

The motorways in France are excellent and easily the quickest way to get to us, although they do require a toll payment which will cost around €40 each way if you drive the whole way using the Peage.

Coming out of Calais you can either head toward Paris on the A16 and head West from Paris outskirts and complete the trip on motorway or aim West from Calais to Tours and then Le Mans to Poitiers which is a nice drive and offers the choice of part motorway and part A roads or all A roads.

From Dieppe,  Cherbourg, St Malo, Caen and Le Havre we are a straight forward 4- 5 hours directly South on motorway/dual carriageway.

Eurostar to Paris is a great alternative and then train from Paris to Limoges or Poitiers.  There are often really good deals and offers on Eurostar and Paris to Limoges taking just 2 hours, can be as low as €12!
